August is the month for dusting off the jam pan. So far the apples have started landing regularly on the lawn. Rather than waste these early fruits they have been transformed into ‘Spiced Apple Jelly’ with just a hint of the old favourite – Chilli! Without a greenhouse at the moment the chillies are slow and few, but the next project, since there are apples a plenty on the tree, is an apple press, it seems the best way to construct one is with a bottle jack and some stout timber, both of which are lying around in the shed! Whether cider is attempted or not rather depends on the juice – it might get drunk too quickly!

This has been growing now for some weeks, I only got around to photographing it today, I must admit we are feeding quite a few slugs and caterpillars, but it has been used a fair bit. (some of our choir were late into the service because they we walking it!!) The plan is to plant some flowers after the vegetables go over / get eaten.

still struggling

The Anglican Primates announced yesterday that there should be no more ordinations of gay Bishops and that the blessing of same sex relationships should not happen. How are we to proceed in honesty and integrity with such a pronouncement. The decision buys the Anglican communion time together to discern a way forward. Yet how are individual priests and ministers to respond to a genuine request from committed same sex couples for the blessing of God? Is this not a case of prevenient grace – the grace that God gives when an individual – or couple – moves towards God? How can we deny the blessing of God in such a situation? I am at a loss to answer this. I can only hope that the answer will lie in the experience, if and when it happens!
