First shoots

A lovely surprise greeted me this morning as I glanced over to the propagator, only two days in and a fresh radish shoot has stretched for the light. I think that must be some sort of record for me. It is reassuring to think that, even though it is only mid-January there is new life already on the way. Though the house is strangely quiet without The Cat, the apple tree is singing happily as the birds gorge themselves on the nuts preparing for another spring! I think I shall plant some of my favourite vegetable later today, since the seeds came in the post this morning. Broad beans – I can almost smell them sizzling in the pan with spring onions and bacon…

Chillies

Chillies

Why does everything start to come good just as you are about to go away?? Toms are doing really well, courgettes have finally decided to grow, cucumbers are doing well, caterpillars are needing collection every morning and chillies, (sorry for the naff picture.) It has taken two years to grow this plant, (i’m quite chuffed as you can imagine) this year there are loads of small bullet shaped fruit, twilight chillies go through a number of colours before hitting the jackpot and being devilishly hot!! We may make some Chilli jam, mmmm.
