August is the month for dusting off the jam pan. So far the apples have started landing regularly on the lawn. Rather than waste these early fruits they have been transformed into ‘Spiced Apple Jelly’ with just a hint of the old favourite – Chilli! Without a greenhouse at the moment the chillies are slow and few, but the next project, since there are apples a plenty on the tree, is an apple press, it seems the best way to construct one is with a bottle jack and some stout timber, both of which are lying around in the shed! Whether cider is attempted or not rather depends on the juice – it might get drunk too quickly!

I was sure I had heard the piece of music that ended Good Morning Sunday on radio two this Sunday just past, however, it seems that it is from a new CD ‘New Dawn’ by Libera, the track is called ‘Gloria’ a little digging found it is based on Saint Saens Organ Symphony no.3 (YouTube has various offerings) I was surprised I didn’t recognise it, even more so as it was used in the film Babe. The vocal version by Libera is great, shame the CD is only available from the US … Update: Well so much for Amazon.com, their referral to the UK site was naff, I’ve found it!!

Eulogy

No not mine. Damn, some may say! But one given about a dear friend. He and his colleague were working amongst the youth of the church and when getting together remarked at how much the church needed to change and how it didn’t support those it ought. There were very aware of the shortcomings of the church It is just a shame, he said that they were not quite so aware of their own! Something to ponder for lent – be less cynical!
