August is the month for dusting off the jam pan. So far the apples have started landing regularly on the lawn. Rather than waste these early fruits they have been transformed into ‘Spiced Apple Jelly’ with just a hint of the old favourite – Chilli! Without a greenhouse at the moment the chillies are slow and few, but the next project, since there are apples a plenty on the tree, is an apple press, it seems the best way to construct one is with a bottle jack and some stout timber, both of which are lying around in the shed! Whether cider is attempted or not rather depends on the juice – it might get drunk too quickly!

Eh, Jesus?
Yes Peter?
Did you really ride to Jerusalem on that Donkey?
Well, Yes Peter, you were there.
Sort of Jesus, I was er, taking in the mood of the crowd.
Were you scared Peter?
Yes Jesus.
So, How was the mood?
The mood Jesus?
Of the crowd Peter, you know, the ones shouting a lot.
Oh that, well they seemed to think you were some sort of King.
Anything else?
They shouted Hosannah a lot!
Yes, I heard that one!
They seem to think you are going to overthrow the Roman Rulers.
Oh. What do you think Peter?
Well… You have been talking a lot about your Kingdom and the hour being
near.
Been listening Peter, Iʼm impressed.

Praying for the world

There are many and varied worship styles in the chapel at St. Mikes and they are all from a particular perspective. However, last Tuesday – praying for the world. Half an hour of silent prayer, incense, candles, a map, book – operation world and quiet. Choose a country and pray for it, lighting a candle and placing on the area. Wonderful, silence and prayer. I was though slightly more interested at the end of the short committal of prayers to notice the emphasis of prayer on the third world and developing countries or areas in in a time of war. Now it’s not that these places don’t need praying for, but that, perhaps it is those areas or countries who perpetuate the poverty of the developing countries or those areas or countries who try to dictate to countries in civil war who need our prayers more. Perhaps what I had thought of most looking at the map, was that our prayers were more along the lines of God please fix this rather than, enable us to stop oppressing others or help us to be more compassionate towards those in need.
